Jacqueline is a British trained Sierra Leonean Lawyer who was called to the English Bar in 1986 and is a member of the Middle Temple, Inns of Court, London.

Her greatest asset is a calm positive and dynamic disposition ensuring that the level of legal service rendered by the firm to our numerous clients is of the highest standard.

CAREER/ WORK EXPERIENCE

Position Held: Senior and Managing Partner of Renner-Thomas Associates which specializes mainly in banking, commercial, corporate law and finance, shipping, employment and property law.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provision of legal advice to on a wide range of matters including commercial, corporate, banking, landlord and tenant, real estate, succession;
  • Briefing of counsel for litigation.
  • Drafting of legal processes (writs, originating summons, motions, defences, affidavits, etc)
  • Case Management for civil court matters
  • Mediation and other forms of ADR.
  • General oversight of the Firm

August 2012 – August 2014

 

Renlaw Consultancy, Renlaw House 12 Pultney Street

As legal consultant for Renlaw Consultants, was engaged in the following:

 

  • Contracted in August 2013 as ‘national legal expert’ in the project “Support to the Freetown City Council and Urban Planning Authorities Project” for Freetown Sierra Leone, implemented by GOPA- CES Consortium and funded by the EU.  Consultancy work included
  • Research, review and analysis of the present land use planning laws and management;
  • review of the institutional framework for urban planning and management including legal considerations related to the on-going decentralization process;
  • putting forward proposals for a new planning law;
  • Advising on a wide range of legal issues in relation to the project.
  • Assisted in a legal consultancy in 2013 given by the CEMMATS GROUP to research and review the laws governing the Transport Sector in Sierra Leone and to review the effectiveness of the legal framework within which Transport Sector institutions operate;
  • Giving of legal advice and preparing relevant legal documents for the setting up a carbon project to be developed in the Gola Forest.  In particular legal advice on institutional options and project development including reviewing all environmental laws in connection with it.

2011 – 2012

Gained experience as a legal consultant in the area of project finance.  The projects and legal experience gained are listed below:

  • A large Bioethanol Energy Project to which work included:-
  • Legal advice to the lenders;
  • Review of all finance and project documents including a Power Purchase Agreement with the Government of Sierra Leone,
  • Preparation and registration of local security documents.
  • A large scale agricultural project for the production of palm oil to which work included: –
  • legal advice, preparation of security documents and legal opinion;
  • Proposed Funding from an Asian Development Bank for a mining project to which work included: –
  • legal advice on special purpose companies within the context of Sierra Leone Law with regards to project finance; and
  • In particular the enforceability of various securities within the Jurisdiction.

FURTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Jacqueline has successfully completed an advanced course in International Arbitration by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) in London. 

She has also completed a course in Fundamentals of the Sierra Leone Tax System (TAC1) at the Freetown Business School (FBS). 

SKILLS ACQUIRED

  • Reasonable command of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Good communication skills
  • Reasonable command of written French
  • Knowledge of security law
  • Adept at building and maintaining relationships with people within a working environment and being able to motivate, inspire, persuade and challenge colleagues

 

 

Interests:

Reading, cooking, mentoring younger women to help them with personal and social development.
